My goal is to help children move forward to reading success.

My name is Connie Rose. I am a dyslexia intervention tutor in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I tutor students with dyslexia as well as children identified as being at risk for dyslexia. As a Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP), I am dedicated to helping children become successful readers.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education, followed by in-depth training to become a dyslexia interventionist. I am trained in the Sequential English Education program (SEE) — a research-based, multisensory, structured literacy program designed for students with dyslexia.

A research-based curriculum that uses a structured literacy, multisensory approach empowers students with dyslexia to improve reading fluency and build lasting confidence in their reading abilities.

Understanding Dyslexia & Intervention

Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurobiological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities. These difficulties typically result from a deficit in the phonological component of language that is often unexpected in relation to cognitive abilities and the provision of effective classroom instruction.

— International Dyslexia Association

A dyslexia interventionist provides targeted, structured literacy instruction to students with dyslexia. They use research-based approaches and structured literacy to teach foundational reading, writing, and spelling skills. A certified dyslexia interventionist completes an International Dyslexia Association-accredited training program and a supervised practicum, demonstrating expertise in reading intervention and assessment.

CALP is a nationally recognized professional certification for educators specializing in dyslexia. Certified Academic Language Practitioners provide explicit, systematic, sequential, multisensory structured literacy instruction which builds a high degree of accuracy, knowledge, and independence for students with dyslexia.

The SEE Program is a research-based method that utilizes multisensory, structured literacy instruction for teaching:

Phonological awareness · Reading decoding · Reading comprehension · Reading fluency · Spelling · Morphology · Handwriting · Written expression · Grammar · Auditory discrimination & memory

It is designed for learners ages 5 to adult diagnosed with dyslexia or at-risk for dyslexia.

I work with students who have been diagnosed with dyslexia, as well as children who have been identified as at-risk for dyslexia. The SEE program is designed for learners ages 5 through adult.

Letters of Reference

I highly recommend Ms. Connie as a dyslexia intervention tutor. She worked well with my son over a two year period using the Sequential English Education (SEE) program. She demonstrated a deep understanding of literacy and children's learning styles, helping him build his reading skills, including phonics, syllables, memory and auditory discrimination.

Over the two year period Ms. Connie worked with my son, I saw him gain confidence as well as measurable academic progress. As a bonus, lessons were enjoyable and didn't feel like work for my son. I am truly grateful for the positive impact Ms. Connie has had on my son's educational journey!

I would like to recommend Ms. Connie Rose as a dyslexia interventionist and reading teacher. I had the pleasure of working with Connie Rose at the May School from 2022–2025. During this time, Connie worked as a Dyslexia Intervention Specialist/Reading teacher, working in small groups with May Center students, and as a Library/Literature teacher, working with larger groups of students.

Students who received dyslexia intervention and reading instruction from Connie made great progress: those who received one year of intervention from her gained an average of 16 percentile points as measured by standardized assessments, which are one minute timed reading on grade level. Incredibly, those who received two years of intervention instruction gained an average of 21 percentile points! This means not only did students' reading fluency increase on grade level, but they were also able to make up ground in comparison to their age-level peers across the country. She truly made progress in closing the reading achievement gap with every student she worked with during her time at the May School.

Ms. Connie Rose is a patient, kind and responsive teacher who has been able to have a profound impact on her students. I highly recommend her to anyone who is seeking tutoring and reading instruction for their child.
